The objective of the symposium «Bibliophile Values» was to discuss the evaluation and selection criteria of bibliophile editions in both private collections and those held by different institutions, analyzing simultaneously the meaning of the word value in this context. Many speeches were devoted to bibliophile values in the collections of great Bessarabian and Romanian libraries and museums, as the bibliophile editions in these public collections are primarily national values of written and printed heritage – works included in the circuit of both national and international cultural and spiritual values, and which ensured and are still ensuring the cultural continuity of our nation. Therefore in these institutions, beside formal bibliophile selection criteria, content and ethical criteria are also used, which permit to emphasize the essential dimension of the Romanian book universe.
