The symbols and ideograms of ornamental motifs from the Romanian culture are ideational messengers of the national spiritual values from the folk art. In order to find out or to explain the sense of the existence, the mankind has always created benchmarks of perennial values, that have lasted millennia and have been at the cosmogenesis of other values of the same nature. The tackled problem certainly deals with the plastic language of ornamental motifs, which deeply rooted in the Romanian culture where a series of symbolic connotations enciphered. The Tree of Life as a religious symbol, widespread in the ancient cultures, was the symbol of life and fertility, the prototype of all miraculous plants which arise the dead, cure diseases, give back the youth, etc., being known in the mythology of the most of peoples. On the Romanian territory, the Tree of Life has crystallized over time in some fundamental plastic patterns, among which Fir image is the oldest. Since immemorial times the Fir has inspired the faith of the peoples of these lands in its vital force becoming the symbol of life. In this context, our nation formed a huge sublayer of cultures and myth-folkloric structures which constitute the basic background of the Romanian plastic language.
