Writer Ion Druta, through his feminine characters Ecaterina the Great and Ecaterina ”the Little”, in the novel White Church, transfigures two worlds which are established based on different principles that reflect, in fact, two opposite existential models. The Ecaterina the Great world is like a divergences system, in which the exuberant luxury with licentiousness and total misery coexists. Authoritarian ruler, cooling calculating, she frequently fall in to extremities because of the selfishness and the love of her image more than the love of the people she leads. Ecaterina the Little manages to mobilize her world to another direction. Being an emotive, credulous, sometimes naive person, but with a strong faith, and a firmness and virile ambition, she remains a promoter of the physical, moral and spiritual purity. As the intemperance, perversity and the sins of the first tend to emphasize with the innocence, correctness and the honor of the second, the confuse and doubtful direction that Queen world moves, emphasize the Ecaterina the Little trip to the blessed light of the White Church. |
