Rezumat

Based on statistical and historical data, this article demonstrates that despite the colonization process with massive allogeneous elements (Russians, Ukrainians, Bulgarians, Gagauz people etc.), unfolded intensely both in Tsarist times, as in Soviet times, the Republic of Moldova isn’t nowadays a „multi-ethnic”, „multinational” state, as erroneously declare the official of some political parties. It has been ascertained that, in area of the east of Prut, do not live several nations, but only one − those Romanian. Therefore, because of displacement directed by the authorities of that time, the representatives of some ethnic groups, which have their origin countries elsewhere, settled down at different times in this area where the Romanian nation lived. In such circumstances, it is entirely unjustified the request of some representatives of ethnic groups from Moldova to give to Russian language the status of second state language or with another term, the „language of interethnic communication”. This measure will not contribute in any way to the recovery of the sociolinguistic situation in the country, but will mean actually the continuation of the denationalization process of the indigenous population and, especially, of the population represented by non-Russian ethnic groups.
