Odată cu evoluţia tehnologiilor digitale, universul spectacolului teatral cunoaşte un nou val al invaziei imaginii audiovizuale. Aproape peste un secol de la primele încercări de introducere a elementelor limbajului cinematografic, oamenii de teatru propun noi posibilităţi de includere a imaginii filmice (video) în structura spectacolului, lărgind spaţiul şi timpul desfăşurării acţiunilor dramatice. Fiind mai performante şi valorificate la maximum, ele au generat şi unele noi forme de teatru, precum teatrul media, teatrul vizual. Tendinţa spre modernizarea spectacolului prin impunerea secvenţelor video adesea schimbă optica spectacolului tradiţional. Printre experimentele în acest context se înscriu spectacolele teatrelor din Polonia: Hamlet în regia lui Krzysztof Garbaczewski, Cine se teme de Virginia Woolf? al regizorului Grzegorz Wisniewski, spectacolele Hommage a Chagall şi Metamorfoze ale regizorului Adolf Weltschek; spectacolul din spaţiul românesc Între noi totul e bine în regia lui Radu Afrim, spectacolul Regele Ubu de Slava Sambriş şi cele prezentate în cadrul BITEI 2016. Având un impact semnificativ asupra limbajului teatral, precum şi în structura spectacolului modern, prezenţa audiovizualului provoacă un fenomen demn de cercetări sub diverse aspecte.

With the development of digital technologies, the universe of theatrical performance knows a new wave of visual image invasion. Almost a century from the first attempts to introduce elements of cinematic language, theater people offer new opportunities for including movie images (video) in the performance structure, expanding the space and time of the dramatic actions. Being more sophisticated and used at maximum, they have generated some new forms of theater, such as media theater and visual theater. The trend toward the modernization of the performance, by imposing video sequences, often change the optics of the traditional performance. Theater performances of the theatres from Poland: Hamlet by Krzysztof Garbaczewski, the performances Hommage to Chagall and Metamorphosis by director Adolf Weltschek; the Romanian performances Everything is Well between Us by Radu Afrim, the show King Ubu by Slava Sambriş and the ones presented within BITEI 2016 are among the experiments in this context. Having a significant impact on the theatrical language, as well as on the structure of modern performance, the presence of the audio-visual causes a phenomenon worthy of research under various aspects.
