Central nervous system tumors is ranked 17 among cancers most commonly encountered in Europe, with approximately 57,100 new cases diagnosed in 2013 (2% of the total, according to the UK Cancer Research Association). Anesthesia in brain surgery has a number of features that distinguish it from anesthesia administered to patients without CNS pathology. It is known that an ideal anesthetic used in neuroanesthesia, in addition to general properties (e.g., slow induction of anesthesia without excitation, easy controllability of the depth of anesthesia, etc.) should have a beneficial effect on a number of parameters of intracranial system. This should reduce the metabolic needs of the brain, cerebral blood flow and intracranial pressure, without disturbing the brain circuit mechanisms. The positioning of the patient in order to have a better surgical approuch is essential. This is why it is important for the anesthesiological team to be vigilent during the positioning of the patient, in order to reduce the risks of complications during and after the surgery. |
