EARLY DIAGNOSIS IS PLEDGE OF SUCCESS IN CANCER CONTROL Summary:The paper sets forth the data presented by Prof. O.G. Sukonko, Director of N.N. Alexandrov National Cancer Centre of Belarus, in the plenary meeting at the opening of the IX Congress of Oncologists and Radiologists of the CIS countries and Eurasia. The data of Belarusian Cancer Registry being the basis for the analysis of cancer care for the country’s population are presented as of 01.05.2016. In the setting of steady growth of primary and total cancer incidence, the burden on the country’s cancer service is considerably increasing. The problem of early cancer diagnosis is still pressing, depending on the operating activity of the primary medical care network. Despite the challenges of early diagnosis, cancer mortality and lethality are declining, 5year survival rates are improving, the number of registrants cured of malignant neoplasms has significantly grown. The accomplishments attained in providing cancer care for the population are associated with implementation of the State Comprehensive Programme of Cancer Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment for 2011–2014, with devising and introducing efficient algorythms of cancer diagnosis and treatment into practice, with activities improving early cancer diagnosis, including practical adoption of screening programs.
