Discrepancies between Clinic and Morphologic Diagnoses: Concept, Classification, Causes The discrepancy between diagnoses is a partial or total mismatch of disease (trauma) with that found at the autopsy after location, etiology or disease process character. This concept includes cases of late diagnosis too. Average index of diagnostic discrepancies is 15-20%. Causes of discrepancies could be divided into subjective and objective. The objective ones are conditioned by short duration of patient stay in the medical institution; difficulty and impossibility of diagnosis’ establishing due to technical conditions, masked or rare pathologies; severe state of the patient. Subjective causes include: insufficient physical examination; overestimation or underestimation of anamnesis, clinical data, laboratory tests data, consultants’ conclusions; incorrect formulation of the final diagnosis etc. |
