Rezumat

Due to the fact that literary translation requires much responsibility, creativity and linguistic knowledge it may become a challenging activity for any translator, especially for those intending to join this vocation. To be able to cope with difficulties of various character, such as cultural, historical, psychological and first of all linguistic the beginners should familiarize themselves with the translation process, which presupposes a series of operations to be performed when dealing with literary texts. Therefore samples of exercises have been suggested to train procedures for conducting literary translation. The suggested examples are focused on linguistic issues enclosed in the original text. We will also show how they can be solved in translation from the source language into the target language. For this purpose we have resorted to the comparative analysis of the English and Romanian extracts selected from different literary sources and gave them in the present article. Translation of carefully selected passages from fiction will offer the learners a possibility to explore the dimensions of both languages and develop their skills and style of written expression in English as well as in their native language.
