Rezumat

It is difficult to imagine our life without advertising, which is essentially a 21-st century development. In everyday life we come into contact with different kinds of advertising: printed advertisements in newspapers and magazines, poster ads in buses, subways, and trains, neon signs along streets, billboards at the roadsides, TV commercials, etc. Nowadays, advertising has become an integral part of our life, and one could hardly imagine life without its impact. The language of advertisements which is very laconic and rich in stylistic devices presents a great interest for many scholars. The main goal of the given article is to determine the pragmatic functions of Metaphor (a stylistic mean) which is frequently used in the printed German advertisements registered on the pages of the German weekly news magazine “Der Spiegel”.
