Rezumat

The terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001 by Al-Qaeda against the United States of America have substantially altered the picture of the contemporary world. There are several question marks regarding this tragic event. One of the great mysteries of this act is the dramatic assassination on September 9th, 2001 of one of the greatest figures in recent history, Ahmad Shah Massoud (in Dari language it signifies the Favorite, 1953 - September 9, 2001), the main leader of the resistance movement against the Soviet intervention in the Afghanistan “land of mountains”. The article is based on the testimony given by the Moldavian participants of the Soviet - Afghan war and the author develops an afghan mystery of the combatant’s biography - Ahmad Shah Massoud.
