Rezumat

On 21 September 1905 a group of boyars and intellectuals founded in Chisinau The Moldovan Cultural Society, which was aimed to contribute to the raising of the level of education of the Moldovans from Bessarabia and to the more complete study of the native land. On 3 December 1906, in the hall of the Music School of V. P. Gutor in Chisinau, was held a literary and artistic matinee, organized by The Moldavan Cultural Society, an event that produced a deep impression on the Bessarabian audience, eager to assert nationally. The significance of national celebration resides in that it was the first national demonstration of Moldovans in Bessarabia, after a national and cultural bondage for nearly a hundred years. The event is considered as an act of affirmation of national consciousness of the Bessarabian Romanians, reborn under the influence of the Russian revolution of 1905-1906. The value of the event is increased by the fact that it was organized by own forces of Basarabians, was held at the level of civil society, through The Moldovan Cultural Society and the editors of newspaper “Bessarabia”, despite the opposition of the authorities.
