The metallogenesis or mineralogenesis of Romania could be characterized from many points of view by the triad gold – rock salt – oil. These resources have had and still have an important share in the total production of mineral deposits, significantly contributing to the economic development of the country during the last two centuries. Fe-Mn ores as well as the base metal (Cu, Pb, Zn) and non-metalliferous ores are (have been) very important too. An interesting evolution is given by the transformation (partly at least) of some salt mines into underground museums thus sustaining the mining activity. This trend should be extended to the metalliferous mines as well. |
