The paper analyzes and discusses issues related to the creation and deve-lopment of the globalistics as a distinct field of interdisciplinary knowledge. It presents different views and visions on the emergence, establishment, formation of globalistics as science, the relationship between it and the process of globali-zation. A particular attention is paid towards the formation of the special status of globalistics in the context of the historical overview in the development of the global world and the process of its interpretation and understanding. It also examines the "second wave" of interest to the globalists in the second half of the 90s of last century. Special reference is made to the new trends and develop-ment prospects of the globalistics to date, including the World Congress on glo-balistics in Moscow in October 2013 and dedicated to the celebration of 150 years since the birth of the great Russian scientist V.I.Vernadschii, who had an outstanding contribution to the conceptualization and research on the global world..
