This article examines excerpts gleaned from the diary, „The world and I” for which Alexei Marin had been imprisoned for seven and a half years in GULAG. The diary includes first-year philology student’s notes. Chronologically they coincide with the starvation time between 1946 and 1947. Beyond the language awkwardness, a constant effort to ponder facts of the young 23-year-old fellow who is native from Transnistria and a former war participant is noticed, an effort to try to understand what he sees, hears, and feels. However, the innocent notes are of great interest not only from the political, social, ideological, and cultural points of view, but also from the literary point of view. The article focuses on the relationships between the raw fact and fiction. The author insists on the tragic realities recorded by the diarist, on the artistic transfiguration of the truth of life retracted by the officials and by the Stalinist regime dogmatic literature.. |
