Integration in the European Union is one of the strategic objectives of the Republic of Moldova. This process is seen as a solution for moldavian society on the way of its modernization and economical transformation. Ten years after the establishment of contractual relations both Moldova and the European Union (EU) are still defining their position. Moldova, encouraged by the European Parliament, sees the “next train to EU” going from the railway station “Stabilization and Association Process” as a best opportunity. From other side EU, trying to make first its eastern borders secure, is proposing Moldova the frame of a new Neighbourhood policy, which, alongside with all its positive aspects, is not opening for Moldova the perspective of accession to EU.
The conclusion is that, Moldova, decided to join EU, has only one possibility: to use all the opportunities, offered by the implementation of PCA, by regional co-operation in frame of the Stability Pact (and not only), and try to formulate the Action Plan as an accession strategy. |
