Famine of the years 1946-1947 was the result of a series of unfavorable circumstances. However, the main role in causing and triggering it had the so-called human factor. Leadership of the republic remained deaf to many signals of local leaders about the food catastrophe. Even worse is that the unional government was not told about the difficult situation in Moldova in the summer of 1946 and bread collection policy by the state doggedly continued. However, aid from the Soviet state, although very late, managed to substantially reduce the extent of this catastrophe and save
hundreds of thousands of lives. If these measures had been taken in the fall of 1946, casualties could be practically avoided. Author considers that the famine of the years 1946-1947 did not wear an organized and centralized character and the Soviet administrative
system had a rather positive role in combating hunger. |
