In the second half of the last century, in Soviet Moldova there had been several attempts to create a Museum of Countryside Architecture and Ethnography. Still all of them failed, because the local Soviet authorities had not promoted viable policies for the protection and valorization of the national cultural heritage, being the only republic of the former USSR and Europe where such a museum was not established. The lack of the museum in question led to the irrecoverable loss of a number of monuments that related to the national culture, the way of life of Romanians in Bessarabia and national minorities inhabiting the Republic of Moldova. Delaying of institution of such a museum in over two decades of Independence of the Republic of Moldova indicates the lack of real interest from all the governments that passed for the protection and valorization of historical and cultural heritage of indigenous people.
