To Professor Solomon Marcus, with Love. For 43 years my life was influenced in a myriad of ways by Professor Solomon Marcus. The paper presents a glimpse of this special relation. It ends with a question I posed to Professor Marcus about two decades ago: having so many invitations to join universities around the world, why did you remain in Romania? His main argument was linguistic: in spite of being able to actively use a couple of foreign languages – French, English, Russian, German – Professor Marcus feels that only in Romanian he has full control of the language. What stronger proof of love for the Romanian language can be imagined? |
