The authors present a solidus of Concordia type struck at Constantinople in the 1st part of Theodosius II’s reign. This one has been found in the course of the archaeological excavations from 2007 in the southern side of the ancient settlement of Histria, nearby the south-western corner tower of the late Roman fortification (extra muros). It represents the first one Roman gold coin resulted from the systematic researches in this important site. Till now at least 73 gold coins struck under Theodosius II, discovered on the territory of Romania, had been known and published. Among them it was a single one of Concordia type with a well-known place of finding (Alba Iulia), but from another officina of Constantinople. |
