В статье анализируется известная надпись из Добруджи (ISM V 115 ). Авторы доказывают ошибочность общепринятого чтения содержащегося в ней топонима vicus Verg[ob]rittiani. Последнее обследование надписи показало, что его следует читать как vicus Vero[.] / [.]rittiani. Если за этим написанием стоит Vero/[b]rittiani, топоним может быть кельтского происхождения, однако его появление на карте Добруджи следует увязывать с периодом римского присутствия. В анализе учитываются и упоминания римских ветеранов в других надписях региона.

The article revisits a known inscription from Dobrudja (ISM V 115), and argues that the commonly accepted reading of the place-name as vicus Verg[ob]rittiani is a myth. The recent examination of the altar has shown that in fact it contains vicus Vero[.] / [.]rittiani which may stand for Vero/[b]rittiani. Therefore, the place-name may have an acceptable Celtic etymology, but even so its coinage is likely to date to the times of the Roman occupation. The paper also considers references to the Roman veterans in other inscriptions of the area.
