Deşi au fost parţial sondate, viaţa şi opera lui Filothei sin Agăi Jipei rămân în continuare un subiect deschis al bizantinologiei muzicale naţionale, dat fiind că mai păstrează suficiente zone obscure, enigme de dezlegat şi aspecte de adâncit. Personalitate emblematică a epocii brâncoveneşti, Filothei sin Agăi Jipei capătă – pe măsura acumulării de date şi documente aferente – statutul unui veritabil iluminist renascentist, dotat cu multiple haruri şi animat de diverse iniţiative culturale. Omologat ca protopsalt, compozitor, teolog, filolog, caligraf, Filothei a suscitat interesul viu al specialiştilor din domeniu cu atât mai mult cu cât este şi autorul primei culegeri de cântări religioase cu text românesc – „Psaltichia rumănească” (1713). Or, istoricii s-au ciocnit de numeroase obstacole în calea cercetării din cauza reticenţilor în care e învăluită figura lui Filothei, reticenţe impuse de rigorile vieţii monahale. Investigaţiile din ultimii ani, mai cu seamă cele întreprinse de Sebastian Barbu-Bucur, au dibuit anumite repere şi au permis formularea unor ipoteze şi concluzii. Articolul de faţă se fixează asupra acestora din urmă, făcând departajările necesare între certitudini, semne de întrebare şi probleme rămase complet neelucidate.

Although the life and works of Filothei sin Agăi Jipei had been partially researched, they further remain an open subject of the national Byzantine musical studies, given the fact that they still have enough obscure areas and unsolved mysteries. An emblematic personality of the Brincovenian era – Filothei sin Agăi Jipei, as far as new related data and documents are unveiled, gains the status of a genuine illuminist of the Renaissance era, endowed with multiple talents and animated with various cultural initiatives. Deemed to be an outstanding protopsalt, composer, theologist, philologist and calligraphist, Filothei aroused the living interest of the specialists in this field, all the more that he is also the author of the first collection of religious songs with Romanian texts „Psaltichia rumănească” (Romanian Psaltikia) (1713). Yet, historians encountered numerous obstacles in their researches, because of the reluctances that cover the image of Filothei – restraints that had been imposed by the norms of the monastic life. The investigations conducted in the following years, especially the ones carried out by the Sebastian Barbu-Bucur, revealed some benchmarks and allowed making some hypothesis and conclusions. The current article focuses on the latter, drawing the needed boundaries between certainties, question marks and issues that have not been elucidated at all.
