Mihail Kogălniceanu, s role in the development of our literature within the pre-revolutionary period is considerably great. He founded the most important literary magazine of that time, „Dacia literară” ( 1840), then „ Propăşirea” (1844), where was performed a substantial, critical activity for the promotion of the original romanian literature from all the districts. Kogălniceanu recommended to the writers to draw their inspiration ideas from the historical past related to the fight for the national freedom of our people as well as from the contemporary social realities. For this purpose he focused the attention on the chronicles, publishing for the first time a corpus of them (Chronicles of the Moldavian Country and of Valahia, I-III, Iaşi, 1852, 1845, 1846), he called for the action to collect the peoples, literary productions and for the iniciation of a literature in the spirit and language of the romanian folklore.
