Lately one can notice an intense academic and scientific interest focused on the domain of comparative literature. It also became an institutional discipline, with broad studies initiated by our scholars and professors. The given article is concerned with the directions and tendencies within these literary studies. From a synchronic and contrastive perspective attempts were made to view and specify the new approaches and ways or directions of investigating any kind of interrelation between national literatures from different cultural areas. Specific directions for comparative investigation like: literary parallelisms, the influence and the process of its creative reception and assimilation, the diffusion of patterns, the depiction of common ideas, subjects etc. were detected and defined in this study. In conclusion, one can remark that nowadays any comparative study has as its primary aim the revealing of the originality and genius of the author that received the influence and creatively assimilated it.
