Rezumat

Literary method of involuntary memory updates the experiences lived through memories or presents sudden outburst of a sensorial process of associations in the human mind. Involuntary memory is one of the main methods of creating “a human image in becoming” through the most reliable representation of the interactions between the levels of the unconscious, subconscious and conscious process of self-knowledge of “the complete man”. The chain of memories is spontaneous, unintentional, unforeseeable, spurred by various exterior conditions. Character’s self analysis through involuntary memory highlights the dual nature of a human being. The novelist Camil Petrescu creates the model of a dual character, the person who tends to conceal the excitement of mind, adopting a social mask. The writer discloses the appearance of an auto-reflective, auto-identifying character, mainly concerned with his inner life, manifesting himself as the subject of his “own word” about himself and the world he lives in. The individual style of involuntary memory with the function of psychological characterization inscribes the literary character concerned to explore his own obsession, emotional experiences and organic reactions which imposes the process of self-knowledge.
