Rezumat | ||||||
Much appreciated during his lifetime and in posterity, V. A. Urechia (1834-1901) met the needs of his time via education, literature and cultural messianism as well as via his published works. A pertinent analysis of V. A. Urechia’s publishing activity can not be performed without considering the social, cultural and political environment of the time. It is important to separate the short-term criticism, dominated by invectives from the objective criticism in order to provide a more accurate image of V. A. Urechia’s publishing activity. The article tackles V. A. Urechia’s publishing debut, an article named A Dream, published in the almanac Romanian Horn (Buciumul Roman), which presents the opinions of the future scholar on some Romanian scholars’ trend of the Romanian language latinization, a trend popular at that time. The work examines the writer’s plentiful activity odicals, Opinion (Opinia) (1857), Bison and Eagle (Zimbrul şi Vulturul) (1858), The Danube Star (Steaua Dunarii) (1859), etc. V. A. Urechia’s
whole activity: historical, literary, dramatic is journalistic by nature. During his stay in Paris as a journalist he did much to support the development of Romania towards its modernization. |
