Frequent comorbid diseases and assessment of disability in chronic and episodic migraine
Comorbid disorders (CD) might have an influence on migraine progression and
complicate its clinical evolution. We have studied two groups of patients: I - 93 patients with
chronic migraine (CM) and II - 441 patients with episodic migraine (EM). Anxiety, depression,
sleep disorders and comorbid pain were the most common CD in both groups. Generalized
anxiety was observed in 97.8% of CM vs. 98.4% of EM patients. Panic attacks were noted in a
significantly higher number of CM patients as compared with EM (44.4% vs. 24.9%, p<0.001).
Headache impact on activities of daily living as assessed by MIDAS and HIT-6 questionnaires
was significantly more important in CM in comparison with EM patients.
