Rezumat

In recent years, an increasing use of trace elements is due to their deficiency into human and animal body, caused by the action of various external and internal risk factors. It is apparent that hidden trace element deficiencies are far more widespread than is generally estimated. Selenium is one of the essential trace elements for human and animal body. Selenium has many medical effects, such as reducing cancer mortality, prevention of cardiovascular diseases, etc. The specific biological activity of selenium depends on its chemical forms, organic selenium being the form with the highest bioactivity. Cyanobacterium Spirulina platensis has been consumed as a dietary supplement for a long time, and in recent years this microbiological object is investigated as a matrix for the production of organic compounds with Se, thus, representing a promising source for large scale production of organic selenium. It has been shown that strain Spirulina platensis CNMN-CB-11 accumulates selenium in its process of growth and development and can be used as a matrix for the production of organic compounds with selenium. Iron selenite in concentration of 30,00 mg/l can be used to obtain spirulina biomass containing selenium biotransformed into organic form (79,8%) by its integrating into intracellular bioligands of spirulina, such as free amino acids, oligopeptides, etc. compounds with low and medium molecular weight (27,7%) and proteins (30,3%).
