Multiple interests have marked Alexander Hajdau’s life and work. The Bessarabian man of letters was as a major figure of his time. He kept alive the flame of research and literature, he helped develop the sonnet as a literary genre, popularized Romanian artistic expressions, defied the philosophy and legacy of Gr. Skovoroda, he was proud with the ancestors’ doings and he absorbed the nationat sentiment easily. Throughout his work, which is sometimes fragmentary, unfinished, unprinted, there was a model writer and researcher rooted in encyclopedic trends of his time.
