Rezumat | ||||||
A. Vlahuta occupies his place in literature at the turn of the centuries due to his interest for peasant life and for topics related to national issues. By far the most important Vlahuta’s book is Picturesque Romania. From the today’s perspective, it seems to be a text that is situated between such genres as journalistic report, teaching and scientific text, ethnographic and historical study, travel journal with aesthetic concerns. With time, however, the teaching use seems to demonetize the value of
the book, limiting the angle of reception to a discourse of patriotic propaganda. The heavy veil of accusations overshadows other sides of the work, such as, for example, the one of the first „commented geographical atlas” of Romania from the Danube to the Prut (Dumitru Micu). This important achievement anticipated geographical encyclopedias, so popular nowadays. One should bear in mind that, familiarizing young readers with geography, history and beauty of the country, customs, traditions
and tales, Vlahuta’s work is the first strategy of promoting Romanian territories. Thus, this contribution comes to the attention of researchers of imagology as the first image of Romania and Vlahuta is recognized as „the author of the country brand” for the first half of the twentieth century (Romanita Constantinescu). |
