Dumitrita Smolnitchi’s research Traditions of I. Neculce in Romanian literature of the 1848 epoch focuses on the peculiarities of the reception of the work signed by Ion Neculce, Moldova’s leading chronicler, by the outstanding Romanian writers of 1848, whose most important aim was to promote national awakening. Thus they were especially interested in the promotion of the national features in literature, emphasizing the necessity of drawing upon national history, the beauty of Romanian landscape and national folk traditions. So they were greatly influenced by Ion Neculce’s work, The Chronicles of the land of Moldavia from the rule of Dabija Voda till the second rule of Constantin Mavrocordat and especially by his collection of historical legends, O sama de cuvinte. In her book, the author highlights the two stylistic patterns of Neculce’s reception by the Romanian poets and prose writers of 1848.
