În majoritatea ţărilor lumii, soiurile noi de plante sunt considerate drept obiecte specifice ale proprietăţii intelectuale, beneficiind de protecţie legislativă. În Republica Moldova, acestea sunt protejate prin Legea nr. 39 din 29.02.2008 privind protecţia soiurilor de plante, iar autorităţile oficiale desemnate de stat pentru a se ocupa de înregistrarea şi testarea tehnică a soiurilor de plante, precum şi de eliberarea titlurilor de protecţie sunt AGEPI şi Comisia de Stat pentru Testarea Soiurilor de Plante (CSTSP).

In most countries of the world, new varieties of plants are considered as specific objects of intellectual property, benefiting from legal protection. In the Republic of Moldova, they are protected by Law no. 39 of 29.02.2008 on the Protection of Plant Varieties, and the official authorities designated by the state to deal with the registration and technical testing of plant varieties and the issuance of titles of protection are AGEPI and the State Commission for Variety Testing (SCVT).
