The article deals with the problem of cultural attribution of some types of metalwork (axes and sickles) in Carpathian-Dniester region during Ha A — Ha B time. These axes (so called “axes with trapezoidal or arcuate faces, ornamented with vertical parallel lines”) and sickles are derivatives of Vyrbica metal-production centre at Lower Danube. According to the recently appeared hypothesis, these axes were brought into Carpathian-Dniester region by people of Incised Pottery community. The author demonstrates that this hypothesis does not correspond to the facts. The whole picture of cultural relations between Lower Danube — Carpathian-Dniester and North Pontic regions during Ha A-Ha B1 does not suggest that the Incised Pottery community of the Carpathian-Dniester and Lower Danube region was the successor of Vyrbica metalwork tradition. Moreover, the Late Bronze Age tradition of metal production in Dobruja and Muntenia came abruptly to the end simultaneously with the end of Coslogeni culture and with penetration of Pre-Babadag or Babadag I there. And the author proves that this metalwork tradition was brought into Carpathian-Dniester region from the Iron Gates region by people of Chisinau-Corlateni culture, which belonged to the so called “Cannelure Hallstatt” community. |
