The text is a chronicle to the essay Ion Creanga. The Cruelty of a jovial moralist (Ion Creangă. Cruzimile unui moralist jovial), signed by the academician Eugen Simion. Ion Creanga had not always received well-deserved criticism. Many critics of the time like “junimistii” did described him as a peasant writer ignoring the aesthetic dimension of his work. Therefore, the declared goal of Eugen Simion’s essay is to present him as a writer “of big category”, as a genuine artist, as an “aesthete of philology”, and not as a copyist of peasant’s language.
