This essay, The Eminescu stake… after Eminescu, represents a pleading for the defence of Mihai Eminescu the poet against the multitude of detractors that have appeared in the context of Romanian elitism and post-modernism. As a partner in the dialogue Adrian Dinu Rachieru presents himself in the book Eminescu după Eminescu, texte şi contexte (Eminescu after Eminescu, texts and contexts), Augusta Publishing Hhouse, 2009. Adrian Dinu Rachieru understands the word „defence” as an inter-disciplinary research, a well-considered strategy, realized with the help of methods used by the sociology of reception, literary criticism and history of culture, in the context of an „imagologic war” that is held around Eminescu since the first edition. This war appeared together with his recognition as a value through the criticism of T. Maiorescu but reached heights in the context of Romanian post-modernism after 1989. Both authors draw the conclusion that Eminescu’s posterity remains a continuous challenge.
