The narrator in the book of short prose Nou tratat de igienă (A New Treatise of hygiene) written by Anatol Moraru claims a position of demiurge that is captivated by the characters from the prose written in the 1980s and advances them because of their high intelligence and language. The narrator is a scholar who proves to be bookish, playful, using intertextual juggles even when he tells rural stories that depict provincial atmosphere from the former USSR. The narrator is a stylistic editor of situations that are neither extraordinary nor spectacular. They can’t be called insipid either because they have some spirited anecdotes at the end. Therefore reading of this book is more intriguing due to the narrator’s rhetorical ability than by the story itself.
