Regarding the Roman provinces on the territory of Romania – Dacia Traiana and Scythia Minor – the architecture took the elements and the features of this artistic field of the Roman
Empire. Characterized by the adaptation to the local conditions and by the mixture of forms, but also by the same utilitarianism and organization, the new type of architecture that managed to reach this region will be here an important means of political propaganda: it worships Rome and the imperial power. This is done not only regarding the religious, the military or the reverential buildings, but also in the entire set of the forms for the utilitarian buildings. Roads, bridges, aqueducts, thermae, amphitheatres, basilicas are proofs of the way in which Roman models are taken and used at this level, also, the imperial propaganda being just as strong, although in a less direct way than in the case of the Monument from Adamclisi, of temples, basilicas and castra. |
