The author generates the idea that the literary work is a structure, appealing to the conceptions of Mihail Dragomirescu, Camil Petrescu, Tudor Vianu etc. So the artistic work is seen as a building, an organized and unified whole whose parts are subordinated. The author recalls the conception of the german esthetician Oskar Walzel, according to which the literary work consists of three elements: material, content and configuration. R. Ingarden continues the idea of a hierarchical structure of the literary work by the distinguishing at least four layers, giving a more concrete representation theory about the mutual connection between all the elements of the work, in terms of their interdependence and interaction.
