The author of the article considers that the aesthetic option and the thirst for the universal are two fundamental characteristics in Mihai Cimpoi’s activity as both a literary critic and a literary historian. While the second characteristic has been constituted slowly, the first one was identified early, since the middle of the 1960s. His preference for the aesthetic value of fiction and of other literary works, but most of all his thirst for the universal made Mihai Cimpoi not only a literary critic and historian, but also a philosopher of culture. |
