Identity discourse occurs often as a hybrid cross cultural confluences within a country, thus moving the boundary between identity and its otherness. In Bessarabia the identity is built by difference and expresses the relationship between ambivalence and unique affiliation, relationship determined by the historical experience of this territory, frequently updated in identity ideological connotations. The existing hybridization, not only individually, but collectively, keeps the question of identity rooted in a doubtful present from the ideological point of view. Another factor is the typical context in which any discourse is not a clarification of the problem, but only an option for the construction of identity, existing or withdrawn. The identity discourse in Bessarabia knows more evolutionary steps from restructuring to intercultural integration. The interpretation of its evolution should describe the extent to which identity is perceived in this space as a cultural construct, and the extent to which intellectuals understand the identities’ definition as a process, involving the ideological dimension of the period as well.
