The paper is devoted to social and aesthetic challenges of Patrice Chéreau, a rebellious personality endowed with reckless energy, who revolutionized theatre and opera. Particular attention is paid to director’s way to put in interaction speech acts belonging to different arts. The myths-performances are analyzed, especially those where the French director leads elite artistic forces towards postmodern desacralization. Here is where we find
Chéreau’s way to create a condensed moment, defined by Bertold Brecht as Social Gestus. Then we follow his both scandalous and triumphal route, culminated in the award of Europe Theatre Prize (Thessaloniki, Greece, 2008). |
