The dynamics of the fallow deers (Dama (Cervus) dama L.) populations from the North-East of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. A new Cervid species, the fallow deer, was introduced in the tableland areas of the two countries during the second half of the 20th century in order to widen their faunistic stock, mammals in particular, put to account the natural potential and, at last but not at least, to enrich the hunting patrimony of the forests found on this biogeographical unit.
The four points populated with this species are situated on the righthandside of the Prut River: Poieni-Iaşi (in 1955), Pãtrãuţi-Suceava (in 1956), Adam-Galaţi (in 1957) and Dobrina-Huşi (in 1965). The specimens introduced here came from the Sharlota Park (north-west of Timişoara, România). At present, some larger populations of fallow deer exist only
at Pãtrãuţi and Adam.In the Republic of Moldova, the species was brought from Ukraine (Askania Nova in 1961) and from former Czechoslovakia (in 1982), but they are in small strengh now. |
