The present study reflects the activity of the linguists in the onomastic field, underling the main directions and aspects of the research: collection process of onimic material by means of field inquires and from documentary sources and archives, fundamenatation of problems regarding the theory of onomastics as a linguistic discipline; spread of orthographic rules and transcription in
other languages for the Romanian toponims and antroponims. In the present research are presented and analyzed the most important published scientific works (monographies, dictionaries, brochures,
normative guides, methodical handbooks).
