The role of the central authority responsible for banking regulation and supervision is one of the most important in the area of system stability assurance, as well as in depositors’ protection and maintenance of confidence of the society into the efficiency of the banking sector. The present paper describes the way in which the Central Bank is able to combine its authority together with a process of an active collaboration in order to achieve it core goals. No any authority can impose its own opinion without examining and discussing the necessity and will of the institution it is supervising. Thus, in the case of the Republic of Moldova, the National Bank of Moldova represents an independent authority that is free to elaborate and apply those prudential measures that it considers needed to be applied. Simultaneously the experience of the National Bank of Moldova also proves that more efficiently are implemented those provisions that have been created and elaborated within an active process of cooperation between the supervision authority and the banking system.
