Insects peptides with antiviral and antitumoral actions
Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are among the main effector molecules in host innate immunity and act as a broad spectrum of microbes (bacteria, fungi, protozoa, enveloped viruses) as well as on a variety of tumor cells. The cationic antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), which are toxic to bacteria but not to normal mammalian cells, exhibit a broad spectrum of cytotoxic activity against viral-infecteded and cancer cells. In the relatively near future, AMPs that have been optimized for antiviral and anticancer activity may be an economically viable and therapeutically superior alternative to the current generation of chemotherapeutic drugs. |
