Urolithiasis holds an important place in the structure of urological pathology, due to its high incidence, frequency of recurrence and complications it might cause. The incidences of urolithiasis in the population are dependent on the geographic area, racial distribution, socio-economic status, hypodynamy, dietary habits, etc. The simultaneous occurance of several etiological factors, known or suspected of origin, both exogenous and endogenous cause metabolic disorders presenting with hyperuricemia, hyperuricosuria, hypercalciuria, hyperoxaluria, hyperphosphateuria, hypernatremia and changes in urine acidity. The etiological concept of urolithiasis, a currently accepted consensus, not only includes aetiological and endogenous and exogenous risk factors, the former being the subject of many debates, was completed in recent years with new presumptive endogenous etiological factors and new theories on the pathogenesis of the disease. Advances in imaging technology have allowed earlier diagnosis of the disease, identification and determination of renal stone size and shape to optimize the assessment of kidney function and best tactic for removing kidney stones. |
