Italy has always been praised for its local food and wine. With a rich, ancient history and an important role in identity and culture, it is no wonder that their fame has long gone beyond the borders of the country, and today they have become a standard of quality and are present in many international menus. The lands of Italy, historically, were called by the Greeks "Oenotria" or "land of wines"; the favorable climate here being the perfect viticultural environment, and the Romanians became responsible, and made a major contribution to the development of current viticultural production technologies. They probably discovered that hermetically sealed vessels preserve wine longer, that aged wine can taste much better than young wine, they first used wooden vessels for storage and even the cork stopper. In the contemporary period, the vineyards of Veneto, Tuscany or Sicily are no longer formal, and their aromas are already famous and appreciated internationally. For many wines, the name is similar to the variety and borrows the characteristics of the grape varieties from which they are obtained (local or introduced): Riesling, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay, etc. The value of Italian varieties has been created over time and their variety is difficult to express in words, depending on the regions of origin they are: Veneto – in this region there are white and black grape varieties with local varietal names, such as Glera, Garganega and Corvina Veronese, representing over half of the crop produced in the region; Sardinia – the basic grape varieties are Bovale and Cannonau, both of Spanish origin thanks to strong regional influences. Other cultivated varieties are Carignano, Monica, Nasco and Vermentino; Tuscany - the Sangiovese variety is the most widespread, thanks to the Chianti wine produced from this variety, in this region the Malsavia, Brunello, Morellino and Vernaccia varieties are also grown, they are known for their dry wines with a rich taste; Marche - located in the center of Italy, with its five provinces, the Montepulciano and Sangiovese varieties that predominate in this region of Italy are cultivated. Verdicchio is a popular white variety with a fresh flavor. The Lacrima di Morro, Passerina and Pecorino varieties are renowned in this region for their nuances; Piemonte – mountainous region, this rich agricultural region is famous for its Barolo and Barbaresco wines, made from Nebbiolo grapes. The Dolcetto variety is also cultivated here, but also other famous varieties such as Moscato Barbera, Bianco, Grignolino, Bonarda or Brachetto; Campania – are the vineyards opening to the Tyrrhenian Sea. The most widespread wine in this region is that of the Aglianico variety. It is a rich and distinguished red wine. Other varieties in this region are Falanghina - a white variety for wine with increased acidity and Piedirosso - a black variety from which the most distinctive wines of Campania are produced;Lazio - Grechetto or Grechetto Bianco is a Greek variety, which is appreciated for its blending with other varieties and which is widely cultivated in the region. Another variety from Lazio and one of the most widespread in the world is Trebbiano; Cesanese Comune is a red wine variety that stories say was used in Roman winemaking. Known as "the country of 500 varieties of vines", it is no longer a surprise that today Italy is one of the largest producers in the world, and if we add to the native varieties the introduced ones, found today in region, the offer becomes overwhelming. It is said that Italy creates a wine with a story, and the only opportunity to truly understand and know the craftsmanship passed down through generations is to taste these wines in full. It ideally completes a wide and delicious range of menus, and discreetly served alongside the secrets of world gastronomy in the most prestigious restaurants in the world, Italian wine is an immense cascade of flavors. |
