Rezumat

In the Condica of the forms from Lăpușna district from December 1812, it is mentioned that the church of Saint Elias already existed in 1799. The church was made of wood, then it was built in 1806 of stone next to a stone pillar erected by Ştefan Nour to commemorate him, his parents and his children who were abducted by the Tartars in 1781. The Church of St. Elias was one of the oldest places of worship in Chisinau. The church was shaped like a ship, typical of the 17th-century churches. The church bell tower had 4 bells, cast in Moscow, the largest weighing 480 kg. In the context of the communist regime, the Council of Ministers of the MSSR excluded the Church of „Saint Elias” from the list of architectural monuments by the decision of March 4, 1959, and in 1960 it was demolished. In the autumn of 2016, the campaign to build the monument in memory of the Church of the Holy Prophet Elias began. After a year, the Chisinau Municipal Council adopted Decision no. 15/36 of 22.12.2017, by which they accepted the construction of the monument in memory of the Church of the Holy Prophet Elias on Mitropolit g. Bănulescu-Bodoni Street 26. The monument was sculpted in Romania and transported to Chisinau from Cluj-Napoca. The inauguration of the monument took place in September 2019
