Passion, defined as a strong inclination toward an activity that people like and find important, and in which they invest time and energy on regular basis, seems to be associated to high achievement in different areas. The present study aims to test whether to be passionate by the course area is associated with better performance in higher education students. The investigation involved 495 students, with a mean age of 22.45 years (SD = 6.93) from several Portuguese higher education institutions. We used a sociodemographic survey and the Portuguese version of Passion Scale. Participants were grouped into two groups: Passionate (n = 189) and Non-Passionate (n = 306). A statistically significant difference at the level of the current performance average between the groups was found, with Passionate students presenting higher levels of academic performance. Passionate students tend to achieve higher academic performance, which implies thinking about strategies to increase the passion for the course to be implemented among higher education students.

Pasiunea, definită ca o înclinație puternică către o activitate pe care oamenii le place și o consideră importantă și în care investesc timp și energie în mod regulat, pare să fie asociată cu realizări înalte în diferite domenii. Prezentul studiu își propune să testeze dacă a fi pasionat de domeniul de curs este asociat cu o performanță mai bună la studenții din învățământul superior. Ancheta a implicat 495 de studenți, cu o vârstă medie de 22,45 ani (SD = 6,93) de la mai multe instituții de învățământ superior portugheze. Am folosit un sondaj socio-demografic și versiunea portugheză a Passion Scale. Participanții au fost grupați în două grupuri: pasionați (n = 189) și non-pasionați (n = 306). S-a constatat o diferență semnificativă statistic la nivelul mediei actuale de performanță între grupuri, studenții pasionați prezentând niveluri mai ridicate de performanță academică. Studenții pasionați tind să obțină performanțe academice mai mari, ceea ce implică gândirea la strategii de creștere a pasiunii pentru cursul care urmează să fie implementat în rândul studenților din învățământul superior.
