Introduction. Pain is perceived by signals from the afferent and efferent nerve fibers. Stimulation of the related fibers causes the release of peptides from neuron-substance P and neuroinin A, releasing inflammatory mediators. Fear is a natural human emotion, which involves a universal and individual emotional biochemical response. Objective of the study. To evaluate the affinity of dental pain with the fear of dental procedures and their interaction in patients with cardiovascular disease. Materials and methods. Descriptive research was conducted in a group of 45 patients with cardiovascular disease and dental pain. Pain was assessed by VAS pain, fear by the Fear Assessment Scale in Dentistry. Results. Male : female ratio 3:1, predominantly urban, married 24.44%, average age 51.22±0.68, education 14.25±12.33 (i-v 9-19) years. The value of VAS pain was 63.77±3.78 (i-v) 20-100 mm, the fear was investigated in 3 stages: waiting time, examination and dentistry procedures. The results showed that the average fear was 51.75±12.34, mainly 81.2±7.88 mm (i-v 40-100). Fear while waiting 51.27±1.45, examination period at 56.85±3.89 mm. The data obtained showed a close correlation between pain and time spent in dental treatment (r = 0.69), average correlation of pain on injection with anesthetic (r = 0.53) and low correlation of the waiting period (r = 0.28). Pain and fear correlated poorly with age (r = 0.33) and years of study (r = 0.29). Conclusion. There is a positive discrepancy between pain and fear and a close correlation between the level of pain and fear during dental procedures. |
